«Tink Brings out the Vote in Montreal»

Novembre 12, 2009

Montréal - Thursday,  novembre 12 2009.  Sunday night, traffic exceeded 200,000 pages viewed in less than two hours on the www.election-montreal.qc.ca site and more than 400,000 ballots were processed in just a few hours, the compilation platform and broadcast as well as the website Tink set up for Montreal’s municipal elections have proven to be exceedingly high performing and reliable.

The system was designed to automatically compile submitted voting results and broadcast these same results on the Web for the general public as well as making them available to the media and political parties. On election night, Tink’s teams coordinated the broadcast of voting results on giant screens set up in City Hall’s great hall. In barely 4 months and despite considerable issues at stake and zero margin for error, the Tink team was able to implement a solution that would leave no room for doubt as to the attainment of objectives during this critical evening. “To react to the exponential rise in traffic, the team had to go from 2 web servers to 6 in just 15 minutes. In this situation, work not only has to be done quickly but also without mistakes, it’s the key to success, which is the result of mastering architecture” explains Marcel Tremblay, Associate and Executive Vice President, General Manager, Montreal. Keeping this in mind the intended objectives were:

  • Efficiency in integrating data into the system;
  • Quality and reliability of integrated data;
  • Speedy results;
  • Data safety and confidentiality;
  • Data access and broadcast to the different groups targeted;
  • General public via the www.election-montreal.qc.ca website
  • Media;
  • Political parties;
