« When man is one step ahead of technology… »
October 28, 2009 – by Marcel Tremblay

At the core of success: performance! Nothing is truer, particularly when it comes to advanced technologies. The volume of data being processed is becoming more and more impressive and the increase in the data’s dissemination is growing just as well.

In order to achieve the desired performance, one choice is imposed: equip yourself with optimised “machine” resources (servers). However, even with the optimization of these engines, nothing surpasses man’s capacity.

All throughout my career, I witnessed numerous spectacular optimizations whose success improved architectures and/or database requests. For example, data analysis process time went from 1 hour to only 3 seconds due to the optimization of SQL requests of the database. Or take this other example where the process time went from 8 hours to a mere 30 seconds! There again, this performance was made possible due to the architecture’s revision. Man’s intervention.

Consider this analogy, a golf player who improves his game because he used new, technologically advanced clubs, will be the only one who can determine whether his victory was caused by the difference in his “swing” brought on by these new clubs. Tools operating on the web, just as in the golf scenario, are crucial to a one’s success online. Above all else; knowledge and a humane understanding are key to an insured success!
