Shopify Summer ’25 Edition: Five New Features to Discover
As every year, the arrival of summer comes with a wave of new Shopify features designed to push the boundaries of innovation for your online store. The platform introduces over 150 updates in its summer 2025 edition, including new features for themes, personalization, B2B tools, development, and artificial intelligence.
Which new Shopify features are the most relevant for your e-commerce environment? Here are the ones we're watching closely!
1) Horizon: A New Reference Theme for Shopify

This year, it's goodbye Dawn and hello Horizon! Shopify is replacing its default theme, in use since 2021, with a new, more flexible and high-performing base that offers greater customization possibilities for businesses.
The main improvements introduced with Horizon include:
- An enhanced theme editor that allows for more complex layouts directly from the interface, without touching any code
- The ability to create custom blocks that are easy to edit and reuse
- The option to nest blocks within each other, enabling dynamic and personalized structures
- The addition of advanced no-code features, such as product variant display and one-click add-to-cart
- Optimized performance — especially faster loading times — to enhance both the customer experience and your store’s SEO.
By replacing Dawn with Horizon, Shopify is ushering in a new generation of more flexible, high-performing themes, designed to offer greater freedom in creating, customizing, and visually managing online stores.
2) More Powerful, Flexible B2B Features

Shopify has been working for several years to improve its offering for B2B businesses, and that effort continues in the Summer ’25 edition. The platform is introducing new features that further enhance the B2B experience, making it smoother, more customizable, and better suited to the unique dynamics of business-to-business commerce.
Among the most significant improvements are:
- The ability to create personalized product catalogs for different customer segments (markets)
- A hierarchical, nested market structure that allows the creation of subgroups with their own specific rules
- Configurable settings for each market, including currency, language, product catalog, and tax rules
- Dynamic adaptation of online store content based on the market each customer belongs to
Thanks to these new features, businesses can better segment their B2B customer base and deliver a fully personalized experience to every visitor — all without complicating day-to-day website management.
3) The Addition of Artificial Intelligence

Unsurprisingly, artificial intelligence (AI) plays a major role in Shopify's announced changes. Sales and development teams can now take advantage of new AI-powered features to simplify their work.
Two key additions stand out:
- Sidekick, the built-in assistant in the Shopify interface, has been completely redesigned to offer a conversational AI experience. It can answer questions about how Shopify works, guide users to the right sections of the interface, automatically generate page content based on specific prompts, and produce reports or analyses using store data. Saving changes is still manual for now, but the tool is evolving rapidly and already saves a great deal of time — especially for those who aren’t fully comfortable navigating Shopify's admin interface.
- Assistant, a new integrated tool for development teams, provides contextual answers based on Shopify’s official documentation. It helps with tasks such as migrating to new syntax, adopting recent features, and creating or adjusting sections in the page editor — jobs that were previously reserved for experienced developers.
In short, with these two tools, you can boost your efficiency regardless of your level of familiarity with Shopify.
4) New Testing Environments and Easier Data Management

Shopify has also announced the upcoming launch of dedicated development environments for online stores. These long-awaited features promise to simplify the maintenance and deployment of changes in a number of ways:
- By
allowing changes to be previewed before going live , without having to duplicate an entire store or manually replicate modifications - By enabling access to features from the Shopify Advanced and Plus plans within development environments
- By introducing
new tools to modify, import, and export data in bulk directly from the Shopify interface
Previously, some of these capabilities were only available through paid third-party applications, which makes this update all the more anticipated!
5) Other Updates to Keep an Eye On

In addition to these flagship announcements, Shopify has also rolled out a series of smaller yet noteworthy enhancements for your online store, all designed to improve the experience for both users and technical teams.
More Flexible Discount Codes
It is now possible to enter a promo code directly in the shopping cart before proceeding to checkout. Shopify has also revamped how codes work to allow more flexible application of discounts and provide greater customization options along the customer journey.
Redesigned Developer Dashboard
Shopify has completely overhauled its development dashboard, which is used to manage applications, track usage, access various technical tools, and view analytics. This complete redesign makes it easier to create test stores and apps, while also unlocking certain features that were previously reserved for Shopify partners — including the use of command-line tools to create and manage applications.
