Employee Profile – David Dubé, Director of Services and Consulting

February 25, 2025
David Dubé

Bachelor of Marketing from Université Laval, David Dubé specialized in account management, digital strategy, e-commerce, and customer experience over the past few years. A true Tinker at heart, David made a grand comeback to our team in May 2024 as Director of Services and Consulting (DSC), a position he had already held with great success from 2018 to 2022. What motivated him to return to the fold and what does his day-to-day life as a DSC look like? Let him tell us more!

In a few words, how would you describe your position and daily routine?

As a DSC, I act as a resource person for all the accounts assigned to me. I have a hybrid and varied role on a daily basis, as I represent both the interests of Tink and those of our clients. I truly straddle both worlds!

There's no such thing as a typical day in my job, since I have to juggle different needs, realities, and business objectives for each client. As a result, my daily routine can quickly change depending on the projects: I may be called upon to do strategic advice, account management, customer follow-up or business development. My responsibilities also involve promoting new business opportunities by presenting our full range of services to clients who may not always be aware of all our areas of expertise.

According to you, what are the skills and qualities that a person must demonstrate to occupy a position like yours?

I'd say that having good social and interpersonal skills is a must for my job. Also, professional curiosity, both for the digital world and for each client's industry, is an important asset for being able to ask the right questions, understand a project's requirements and find the right tools/resources to meet them. Because being a DSC also means knowing how to surround yourself with the best expertise to serve your clients!

Having experience in negotiation, sales, and writing service proposals is another significant advantage. It's also important to be proactive and resourceful, as well as having good organizational skills. As for interpersonal qualities, I would say that transparency and empathy are two major assets for successfully building a good climate of trust with your clients.

What have you learned during your years at Tink?

My years at Tink have honed my strategic thinking and helped me develop a more long-term partnership approach. This is different from my other professional experiences, where I was used to managing several dozen accounts at once, which made it impossible to offer the same level of service to all clients. So, I had to learn how to navigate through the different business processes of large companies to position Tink as an essential digital partner for generating value and supporting businesses at every stage of their evolution over the years.

Also, when I left Tink in 2022, I felt that there were too many processes and steps involved in achieving recurring tasks. At first, I had the false impression that it hindered me and was too cumbersome, but then I realized it was quite the opposite! Such processes are crucial for maintaining high standards and managing our organization more effectively.

What do you like about Tink, and what makes you stay?

I returned to Tink largely because of its competent, professional and deeply humane team. It's a team that's so much fun to be around, whether it's to work, have lunch together, or enjoy a beer during happy hour. There's a very humane, non-exploitative culture here, and it's a real joy to thrive in such an environment.

I also appreciate the recognition of our work within the team, both by our peers and the management. I always feel that my contribution makes a real difference, and that's truly valuable! Finally, I really enjoy working for a company that can cover all aspects of digital. It’s a range of services that I really love representing to our clients!

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

I'm thinking of one account in particular that was in decline when it was assigned to me, and a few years later, is back among our most important clients. Tink has once again become a key partner in several of the company's business lines, and I'm proud to have contributed to this turnaround with the rest of the team!

For you, working at Tink means having the opportunity to...?

It means being able to grow within a highly organized company that is attentive to the needs of its teams. It's also having the chance to work with a wide range of competent and dynamic people on a daily basis. I also have among my clients several great organizations with varied business models and very different realities, which allow me to learn and evolve every day as a DSC! Finally, working at Tink means having the trust of my superiors and the freedom needed to do things my own way. It's really something very rewarding for me!

What advice would you give to future employees in your field?

Work on your interpersonal skills: as I mentioned earlier, this is a fundamental aspect of the DSC profession. Also, maintain your curiosity and interest in your clientele and your industry. It's equally important to develop your network of contacts and learn how to use it wisely for business development and connecting people when necessary. Additionally, strengthen your natural leadership and team-building spirit, and make sure to always lead by example, as you will often act as a representative of your organization!
