Tink, committed to a more eco-friendly digital future

June 5, 2025
Journée environnement

On this World Environment Day, we’re reaffirming our commitment to reducing our digital footprint while upholding our standards of performance and innovation. We operate in a sector with a significant environmental impact, but one that also holds immense potential for transformation—a reality that strengthens our commitment.

Our approach is rigorous, transparent, and sustainable, built on concrete, incremental actions. It’s guided by a simple yet important principle: every action matters.

Our carbon footprint: a vital starting point

Since 2023, we’ve been conducting an annual carbon footprint assessment using the simplified tool provided by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). This process allows us to accurately measure the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations.

For now, the BDC tool only covers scope  1 (direct emissions) and scope 2 (emissions related to our electricity consumption) of our environmental footprint. Scope 3 (indirect emissions) is expected to be included in the next report.

2023–2024 results (scopes  1 and 2)

Total emissions (tCO₂e)

Scope  1

Scope 2

2023

1.29 tCO₂e

2024

1.22 tCO₂e

This reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is largely due to the downsizing of our office space.

Much more than just a report

We use our carbon footprint assessment as a springboard for action, a guiding framework, and a way to rally our team around a shared goal: reducing our environmental footprint as much as possible.

A few recent initiatives

  • We distributed a total of 69 trees for our Tinkers to plant. For context, about 20 trees would be needed to offset the scope  1 and 2 emissions generated by our activities in 2024.

  • We raise awareness about digital sustainability by encouraging practices such as data cleanup and server management.

What's next

We know there’s still a long way to go, which is why we’re continuing to implement new measures to do even better. Here are some of our priorities for 2025:

  • Include scope 3 (all indirect emissions related to our activities) in our next carbon footprint assessment;
  • Implement relevant, local carbon offset options;
  • Keep raising awareness and engaging our teams to optimize energy consumption, promote eco-design, and reduce their environmental impact.

An eco-responsible future

As digital professionals, we have a role to play in the ecological transition. Through sincere, measured, and evolving actions, we are collectively moving toward a more sustainable digital future, without ever compromising on performance or innovation.
