A seamless, scalable B2B procurement solution for JRV
Context and Mandate
Since its founding in 1946, JRV has become one of the leading B2B distributors of mining and industrial equipment in Quebec and Labrador. Based in Sept-Îles, the company exclusively serves a B2B clientele, mainly from the manufacturing, mining, and energy sectors.
As part of a major digital transformation initiative, the JRV team wanted to automate and personalize its online purchasing and procurement process (eProcurement) to better meet the needs of its B2B customers. They turned to our e-commerce expertise to design a solution integrated with Shopify Plus, combining a Punch-Out catalog connected to manufacturers’ procurement systems with an eQuoting tool that allows clients to request pricing for products not included in their personalized catalog.
Objectives
- Automate the procurement and order management process for JRV’s client companies
- Facilitate interactions between JRV’s transactional site and the purchasing tools of its B2B clientele
- Deliver a seamless, consistent, and industry-adapted digital experience tailored to the realities of the manufacturing sector
- Position JRV as a reliable technological partner within its clients’ supply chains
- Develop specialized and innovative digital procurement solutions in the MRO field (maintenance, repair, and operations).
Achievements
As part of the project, we designed a custom Shopify application from the ground up using Remix as the integrated development environment (IDE). This was far more than a simple technical deployment—it required deep expertise to meet advanced integration requirements and push the boundaries of Shopify Plus beyond its standard capabilities.
This mandate, which ran from October 2023 to June 2025, was structured around two major components: first, the implementation of the Punch-Out catalog, and then the integration of the eQuoting tool.
1) Implementation of the Punch-Out Catalog
A Punch-Out catalog is a B2B procurement solution that allows a company to directly browse a supplier’s offering—such as JRV’s—through its own ERP system (SAP Ariba, Coupa, Oracle, etc.). To implement this catalog, we connected JRV’s Shopify Plus store to the various procurement systems used by its B2B clients using the TradeCentric gateway.
How It Works
- The purchasing manager at each client company logs into their own procurement system (ERP)
- They punch out (temporarily exit) their environment to access JRV’s personalized catalog, hosted on Shopify Plus
- They browse JRV’s catalog and select the products they need
- Their shopping cart is automatically transferred back into their internal system as a purchase requisition.

2) Implementation of the eQuoting Tool
Beyond standard products, JRV’s clients often have specific needs that aren’t listed in their negotiated catalog. To address this reality, we designed a custom eQuoting interface integrated into Shopify, allowing users to easily submit a price request for out-of-catalog products. This feature ensures a seamless continuation of the B2B digital experience.
How It Works
- The client company identifies a specific need and submits a request through the eQuoting tool
- The request is sent to JRV, which can respond promptly with a tailored offer
- If JRV’s offer is accepted, the request is converted into an order within the company’s ERP system.

Thanks to our Shopify Plus expertise, we were able to meet high technical requirements while providing JRV’s clients with smooth access to a personalized catalog directly from their usual procurement environment (ERP).
